How to Remove Self Adhesive Bathroom Accessories from the Wall

Sometimes things don’t turn out quite as planned. Maybe the products didn’t fit in your bathroom, or you’re moving and want to bring your soap bottle holder or shelf to your next home. The great thing about our self adhesive bathroom accessories is that they can be removed – completely without marks or holes in the wall. It can be a bit tricky, but we’ll help you here with tips and advice.

You will need:

Hair dryer
Fishing line
Hair dryer
Fishing line

Heat the adhesive

Unscrew the bottle that has been attached to the soap bottle holder and take out a hair dryer. Heat from a hair dryer is the most effective method for softening adhesive. By using a hair dryer and holding it a few centimetres from the adhesive, the heat will help soften the glue. Blow heat onto the soap bottle holder until it becomes really warm and the heat reaches the adhesive. Move the hair dryer back and forth over the adhesive until it becomes easier to lift from the surface.

NOTE! Sometimes you may need to use the hair dryer for up to 5 minutes, but eventually the adhesive will start to loosen slightly.

Step 1 – Heat the adhesive with a hair dryer

Remove the soap bottle holder using a fishing line

Make sure the adhesive is still warm from using the hair dryer. Cut a piece of fishing line so that you can wrap it around your fingers. The fishing line should now be pulled behind the soap bottle holder to easily remove the product from the wall.

Step 3

Remove any remaining adhesive

Once you have removed the product from the wall, there may be adhesive residue left. Use more heat from the hair dryer and remove the 3M tape with your hands. By rubbing or rolling the tape against the wall, you can gradually loosen it from the surface. If you are unable to remove all the tape with heat, an effective method is to use oil or alcohol-based cleaning products. Cooking oil can be applied to the tape and left to work for a few minutes to dissolve the adhesive.

Step 5

Done!

Now you have everything you need to get started – good luck with your new project! Take it step by step and use the guide as support along the way. If you need a recap, you can watch the video below where we show how to do it from start to finish.

Do you offer extra adhesive for your 3M products? I would like to move my shelf
- At the moment, we unfortunately do not sell replacement adhesive on our website, but it is available at many hardware stores.

Is the shower shelf water resistant?
- Yes, it is! Our tip is not to mount the shower shelf over grout lines, as there is a risk that water may get behind the shelf and affect the adhesion.

Where can you place a soap bottle holder?
- Almost anywhere you like! In the shower, by the sink, or why not in the kitchen for soap and dishwashing liquid? The possibilities are many!

What is the size of the hole for the soap pump?
- The hole has a diameter of 28 mm, which is the standard size for pump bottles. It would be ideal if all pump bottles had the same measurements, but unfortunately, they don’t.

FUN FACT!
